Life on the coast of the Pacific islands is comfortable and takes place in a slow tempo, but an adventurer wants explore something at times – for example the inland and ascent a lookout hill with views over the surrounding islands. The highest hills on Malolo have almost 200 meters above sea level, so the view is really not bad. Unfortunately, the paths lead mostly through dense grassy bushy secondary vegetation, so the walk itself is not very pleasant. In addition, there is uncomfortable hot without shade all the day except for the early morning. If you have a little „luck“, you will go through an enormous web of many spiders.

Shipwreck cove

The ideal starting point for this short hike is the cove with wreck – a popular place for kayakers or snorchlers. From here the path to the interior leads to the dormitory for employees of Walu Beach resort. Their accommodation is definitely not as sumptuous as the one offered for tourists.

The first outlook

From the staff hostel is the path already quite unnoticeable and rather intuitive. Inconvenient is the sharp grass and very hot weather. Fortunately, the first views for example of a small lake close to the sea slowly open. You can also get to the small lake along coast.

View to Malolo Lailai

After the ascent to one of the two highest hills on the island opens wide view, which is a bit depressing – there's virtually no original vegetation/jungle left. Small remains of the original forest are generally behind the resorts and make the illusion of „tropical paradise“ or at lower altitudes. You can realize here how is the original vegetation more valuable than subsequent bush. This view toward the adjacent „sister“ island of Malolo Lailai is fortunately a little greener.

Group of islands Mamanucas from the bird

You can see a lot of other islands from the outlook. Unfortunately there is a gray haze of humidity and heat most of the time spoiling the mountain views. At the very right there is island Honeymoon basically accessible only during Island Hopping trip. Elongated island in the foreground is Mana. Other islands in the outlook are Yanuya, Monuriki, Tokoriki, Tavua and Matamanoa.

Giant spider

It is not difficult to find a huge spider web with its large owner along the way. You should therefore watch carefully where you are going.

Hill above Walu Beach

You can see even the more wooded hill directly above the resort Walu Beach /see the introductory slide of the photoreport/ from the outlook point and you ascent to this one as well. But the way is perhaps even much worse. But there is a nice view of the impenetrable cove and the ship wreck is visible as a little dot from it.

View of Island Casteway

Nice view is also of the island Casteway lying right behind Malolo.
