Marmaris has basically three centers where is the largest accumulation of tourists – old town with harbor, coastal promenade that separates the beach from hotels and the main shopping street, which is probably the least interesting part. The town itself together with other hotels continue for another around two kilometers further to inland up to mountain massifs that surrounded it on all sides . The beach promenade leads along the whole bay and is in the morning a paradise for sportsmen and for walkers in the evenings.

You can go along the „endless“ promenade basically either to the southwest direction to neighboring Icmeler (description of this trip here) or to the opposite direction to the old town. Just behind the promenade there are really lots of hotels.  There is really little number of undeveloped vacant lots.

View from the beach

The most beautiful in Marmaris are the views of the mountains rising from the Bozburun Peninsula. It's actually the first sight that you will see when you cross the mountain pass over Marmaris.

Quiet water surface

If you expect here big waves known from other Turkish resorts, you may be surprised not to find them here. Even this vast bay is perfectly protected and most of the day in fine weather is the water surface as a mirror, which is ideal for swimming.

Cruise at the coast

Angle of view quite distorts and the viewer feels as if captain wants to copy the fate of Costa Concordia.

Promenade

The promenade itself is pleasant, especially because neither bikes nor cars run here. Only cyclists are interfering here a little.

Public beach in Marmaris

The beach in Marmaris is unfortunately very narrow and in most places full of loungers. Therefore the best beaches are surprisingly the public ones which are almost deserted.

Old Town in the distance

Directly above the old town rises the ridge, along which lead jeep paths suitable as an interesting viewpoint of the town. Even higher towers one thousands high mountain of Babadag. But this mountain does not give so interesting and dramatic impression as the mountains on the other side of the bay. In addition, they are surprisingly from quite different reddish rocks.
