Romantic building and adjacent park
The chateau is located in the village of the same name Žleby, on the border of the Central Bohemian and Pardubice regions, in the district of Kutná Hora, about 7 km east of Čáslav.
Žleby Chateau is owned by the state.
It was originally a castle built by the Lichtenburg family. The first mention of it comes from 1289, when it belonged to Henry of Lichtenburg, whose descendants later began to be called Žlebští of Lichtenburg. In the 19th century, the castle underwent a drastic reconstruction, when Vincenc Karel Auersperg imprinted the present romantic appearance in the style of English Neo-Gothic.
The castle offers a look into the daily life of the nobility in the 19th century.
There is an extensive collection of weapons, luxury furniture and original daily necessities. A fully equipped historic castle kitchen with kitchen facilities and sanitary facilities may seem like a small technical miracle. One of the few preserved castle theaters is also unique.
The ascent to the Great Tower offers a view of the wide surroundings, which includes an extensive English castle park, which invites you to relax or a pleasant walk along the flowing river Doubrava.
About five minutes walk from the castle is a well-accessible game reserve, where you will see rare white deer. Other inhabitants of the field are mouflons, fallow deer, siky, roe deer and wild boar. The attractiveness of the area is also increased by falconry demonstrations, connected with an explanation of the issue of breeding and protection of predators. A children's playground and a wooden log cabin with a hunting exhibition and small snacks also contribute to the pleasant atmosphere. The whole building has an area of 121 ha and is located south of the village Žleby in a forest complex adjacent to the castle park.
Access to the castle through a romantic gate. The railway line 236 Čáslav – Třemošnice leads through the village. It is a single-track regional 17 km long track on the border of Central and Eastern Bohemia, ending at the foot of the Iron Mountains below the ruins of Lichnice Castle. There are two parking lots around the chateau, the larger one has a beautiful direct view of the chateau.
