Western Ladakh is a little bit different than its better known and more often visited bigger part extending around the Indus. Instead of Buddhist temples and chortens you will encounter here rather with mosques and muezzin will wake you up early in the morning. The capital is Kargil, which looks more Pakistani than Indian. However, the border – so-called „line of control“ dividing the original territory of Kashmir between the two countries is only a few kilometers away.
