Classic Itineraries

The basic excursion circuit begins in the main valley of the area – ** Ötztal **. From Umhausen it starts to the highest waterfall in the ** Stuibenfall ** area and to the museum of the prehistoric hunter Ötzi – ** Ötzi dorf **. Swimming enthusiasts will stop at the renowned ** Aqua Dome ** spa in Längenfeld. From ** Sölden ** then take the cable car to ** Gaislachkogel ** (3,056 m above sea level) or along the highest road in Austria – ** Ötztaler Gletscherstrasse ** below the Tiefenbach and Rettenbach glaciers up to a height of 2,800 m above sea level. The last stop is a trip to the pass ** Timmelsjoch ** on the border with Italy (alternative start of the circuit). This is followed by the ** Pitztal ** valley, where you can take the cable car to the beautiful ** Rifflesee ** lake and then the famous Pitztal Express and then the cable car to the ** Hinterer Brunnenkogel ** mountain (3,438 m above sea level) with amazing views of the surrounding glaciers. In the ** Kaunertal ** the most interesting ride is the high ** Kaunertaler Gletscherpanoramastrasse ** around the large dam ** Gepatsch-Stausee ** to the view of the mighty ** Weißseespitze **.

Combination with neighboring countries

  • ** From Garmische to the Dolomites: ** thanks to the Timmelsjoch alpine pass, you can take a beautiful excursion circuit from Germany through the Ötztal Alps instead of the classic route from Innsbruck via the Brenner Pass. From Munich, head south. Stop at the beautiful Kochelsee and Walchensee lakes. Then visit Ga-Pa and take the cable car to Germany's highest mountain – the Zugspitze. Then explore the Ötztal valley and continue to Merano in Italy – to the Dolomites or to Lago di Garda.
